Thanks in advance... am wondering if the commute from Matthews to CLT would be terrible? I thought I read somewhere that Independence is awful (which would make the straight shot not so straight). So is the second option below any better?

What is the average with/without rush hour?

Thanks so much for your help!

Well, Matthews and Charlotte abut one another, so it really depends on WHERE in Charlotte you want to go from Matthews

Did you mean uptown Charlotte?

Independence/Hwy 74 is the pits. I would personally avoid it at rush hour.

Tell me where specifically in Matthews you'd be leaving from and where in Charlotte you want to go and I'll give you an ETA

Oh, finally got the thumbnail to open...apparently you want to go to WEST Charlotte, on the other side of uptown?

OOPS! Sorry I meant CLT Airport I don't have a specific address in Matthews because we have just been browsing - but am looking at the Winterbrooke neighborhood? Am just trying to figure out if that's unreasonable!

Thanks for your quick response!

Well, no way would I take the Independence Blvd route.

You'd want to go across town instead. Look for that trip to take about 40 minutes in rush hour - 25 minutes during other times of the day.

Personally, I'd go McKee Rd to Providence Rd, Providence to Fairview, Fairview becomes Tyvola, you go north on Billy Graham and voila', you are almost to the airport.

Why not just take 485?

First of all, there's no good place to get on it from that section of Matthews, and secondly, the traffic bottlenecks SO badly for a few miles before I485 meets I77, and thirdly, I485 puts you too far south of the airport entrance and you still have to north on I77 to get on Tyvola to go to Billy Graham

I'm close to Matthews, near where OP shows on the map, and that's how I go to the airport. I more or less wind my from Sardis Road North to...Sardis...to Sardis...wherever traffic is moving the fastest, turn left, and keep going until I see planes.
