It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the thugs started stealing food & gas.

As a California native...I'd say crime here is pretty low, esp. in the Lake Norman Area. Charlotte's crime is nothing compared to LA. I think most of the crime is petty theft by teenagers (and probably people who've been laid off from work!).

Becky the people doing the robbing have never held a job. These are not good people who are down on their luck.

That is my understanding, too. These are career criminals. Did anyone else read the backgrounds on several groups of these thugs? They all have long rap sheets and are young guys. They have been making a living out of ripping off the people out here who ARE working. Pretty outrageous.

I think a common misconception is that when people talk about charlotte they tend to include surrounding areas like lake norman rather than just charlotte proper. However, when people talk about LA or NYC they are talking about within the city limits. This makes it an apples to oranges discussion. To take that one step further, personally I don't think you can compare charlotte to world class cities like NYC, LA, Chicago at all. That's not a knock on charlotte, its just those cities are so different.

The problem with crime in charlotte is that it is in the burbs, places you certainly would not consider "city" living. My neighorhood in sw charlotte had two breakins last week. The first one they kicked in the front door and the second one they cut a screen and came in through an open window (not smart on the homeowners part). Both happened days apart between 4:00-4:30 am) and in both cases the homeowners were home.

I think its pretty crazy when break-ins occur when the homes are occupied. Its extremely reckless and shows just how much these criminals do not respect the judicial system.
