Default Fire ants

Got my entire yard, one acre, treated for fire ants one year ago today with a one year guarantee and happy to say I have not had one mound pop up. Not one. Very happy!

Iam new to Charlotte as well as this forum. I recently bought a house in northwest Charlotte and fire ants are a major issue in my yard. I have mound after mound and I'm just over ran. It's getting frustrating I have tried multiple different baites/ insecticides ect.... As well as used a pest control company that didn't seem to fair any better long term then what I did myself. Who is your pest control company if you wouldn't mind referring me?

How much would that cost me to do a 1.5 Acre lot? Is there any kind of gaurentee on that product? I'm just tired of dead ends with this issue. It has cost me a lot of money already. Thanks

Amdro is a bait. You put it down & the fire ants serve themselves. The cost would depend on how much you need.

Last week I put Amdro down and the fire ants happily carried it into their nest. I watched many of them do so. Unfortunately it didn't kill the nest! They are still in the same freaking spot.

Not too happy. Another dose of Amdro is going down tomorrow and I hope it works better!

Our youngest son is severely allergic to fire ants and had an anaphylaxis reaction to a fire ant bite. Yes, just 1 bite. He had to be hospitalized at Levine Children's. Most frightening moment of our life.
Anyway, our exterminator told us to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and purchase a fire ant product. He said to spread it throughout the yard like fertilizer twice per year. I think my husband purchased the Ortho Brand Fire Ant Killer.
So far, we have found maybe one or two mounds since spreading it throughout the yard a few months ago.

I had a local company do an application a few years ago of I don't know what chemical, but he said a side effect was that it helped reduce ticks in the yard as well.

It actually took a couple of years before the ants came back, so the product worked. However, this company only wants to do that again if they have a monthly fertilizer/weed spray contract, and they weren't too reliable when I used that service.

Does anyone have an idea of what they might have used?
