On any given day there appears to be new bands popping up, renowned bands coming through, musical venues opening up, sports/music conferences, hard rock to classical, hip hop to country, there is something for everyone here! Is this city entertaining or "what?"
Sadly, the city has no real scene of local, original bands. At most clubs on any given night, all you can usually find are lame cover bands. There are a small number of great, local bands, but you really need to look to find them.
And while we do get some shows here (mostlt via the Live Nation conglomerate) a lot of bands still play Raleigh and Atlanta and skip Charlotte.
A quick visit to Austin TX should quickly wash up this perception.
Who gives a F about Austin? That's what they do, good for them, but good to see Charlotte increasing options. Everytime someone points out something postive, surely the neg heads will appear.
Example...
Postive: it was 70 degrees in Charlotte all week, neg heads: it is 75 degrees in San Diego all year.
Postive: 3rd ward park is progressing, negatives: wanna see a real park, go to Central Park in NYC.
On..and on....
LOL, it always better somewhere else....give it a break, puh-leeze!

Now, that's good constructive criticism. Hopefully, the venues and scene will continue to evolve. This hasn't ever been one of Charlotte's strong suits which I attribute mainly to a lack of a large home-grown campus-based university where many of this bands, scenes develop. UNCC seemed more a commuter school till the late 80s and lacked the notoriety of the Triangle based schools.

I can only think of one signed Charlotte act - the Avett Brothers. I guess someone could go for some of those AI contestants like Kelli Pickler (who really is further out than the metro). Without signed artists (successful or not), you really have no scene at all.

Charlotte actually has been getting more acts than Raleigh recently. Compare the major act pop or rock shows and you will notice the huge difference. In example, Warped Tour is in Charlotte, not in Raleigh.

You can add Madonna's tour to that list as well...
