Desperate people are not helped when only given pity and false encouragement. People that fail to successfully motivate challenged children through the "tough love" too often subscribe to blaming schools and teachers for their own shortfalls. I am sure you can relate to this. Teaching "was" for me. Dealing with transient parents that didn't have a clue got old. And, this is my opinion

Its a fantastic growing city with many opportuinites. Its location in my opinion is "prime time".
Where else can you live where you can drive 2 hours to be in the blue ridge mtns, 10 hours to disney world, 4 hours to atlanta, 8 hours back home? Snow is even better - we rarely get it and when it is forcasted. Everything closes before the first snow flake. All bread, milk and beer is sold
out of stores. It has crime like all cities - just do some research on where it happening and stay clear of it. The public schools K-12 are the worst in the USA, but the Universities are some of the best. We have gottine much better at dining and entertainment over the several years - thank God.
i was getting tired of fried cat fish, corn bread and cooked to mush beans. It's not NY or LA but It's a great Place!

I could care less what you think of Charlotte. To me it is a good mediocre city. But, to say that it is dead from Monday through Thursday tells me that you are an early bird. I am personally surprised that from Monday throught Thursday nights, things come alive after 9:00pm. I often comment on how do these people get up and go to work in the morning. It may be dead where you lived, but if you really looked, you would find that life existed during the week as well (in the burbs anyway). I am not being defensive for Charlotte, just giving my opinion on what I see as an oversight.

I just reread my posting and the first part where I said, "I could care less about what you think of Charlotte" did not convey the meaning that I intended. What I actually meant is that I am not insulted or angered. I didn't mean that I wasn't interested or curious. I apologize for a poor selection of words. One last note, people make the mistake of comparing. I am very familiar with the Miami area. I have relatives in Coral Gables, Pompano Beach, and Ft. Lauderdale. It is different there and lots more people. I is naturally more active. No agrument there. But, I can show you where there is action 24/7 in Charlotte as well.

I will say as a newcomer to Charlotte, I've appreciated all the wonderful advice and information on this forum. This forum is 90% great. BUT, I've also noticed a pattern on this forum. Often when someone makes a negative comment about this area, the poster gets blasted for it. POW...HOW DARE YOU SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT CHARLOTTE?!?! GET OUT NOW! I find it odd. Why so defensive?
|
Because they think Charlotte is the best city and it has no negatives its the perfect city for people, its thriving etc then you get comments like great post. They dont believe in giving the downside of the city when people need to here that. If you give the cons of the city they go off.
