I HOPE!!! But 1 issue I do have with the schools is not calling me when there is a issue with my child who is in High school and got in trouble on the 1st day, because he didn't know the rules. But I got that straigthen out ASAP!! Also there is crime everywhere and you never run from it, as I was told. And this heat OMG I really can't take it I need a little cold in my life. But I am going to try and stick it out for a year and see were it leads me... But Good Luck if you come.....
A month isn't long enough. I'm sure you'll adjust. One of the other threads we're trying to get a Meet & Greet together. Maybe you can join that one and see what's really going on. So hard to meet nice normal folks once your over 25. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help .

We are from Brooklyn as well and I have to say so far the HS here is so much better then the ones back there. This for my daughter has been the best move possible. She has adapted well and is comfortable in her new school.
Her teachers are wonderful about keeping in touch via email.

I hope it all works out for you. Keep on those teachers to keep the line of communications open.

Good Luck

-No money available to improve the city schools, traffic, crime, etc.
-growing too fast leading to an increase in the negative things mentioned above
-too damn hot (for me)

However, all of the good stuff to me outweighs the bad stuff so I decided to buy my first house and "settle" here.
I agree with most of this and I can add to it as well. i just do not like it here. I come from NY and it is no where near it. NY has it's faults, don't get me wrong, BUT at least there is stuff to do, places to go and to be honest they really rip you off here. Sure there's things to do here but you have to drive hours to see something different. It's crazy...

qtptootie, I lived in NY for 14 yrs and have been in MD for the last 4. I plan on relocating to Charlotte in the near future and was wondering if you could clarify how "they really rip you off". I was just curious as Charlotte is my next destination.

I moved here several months ago. I have not purchased a home yet, because the opportunities here are endless.
Was it a rough transition? Yep, you betcha. I came from FL and the pace here is slower. My fav slogans here from people I have met "you have plenty of time" and "why do you want to rush your day away". LOL. but I will say......
The average pay is lower.
If you are not or do not have a job or transfer, it takes some time depending on your occupation.
I love the school that my eight year old attends, in Matthews.
Charlotte is a huge city, with a small town feel. IMO
There are no strangers here. Big plus is that drivers are courteous here. Big bonus.
Shopping for me is better, more choices, lots of sales. (yep, I'm a shopper) my shoe closet could tell you that.

I wish you luck, just take each day as it comes, learn to slow down.. And have fun with the new experiences.

I'm not singling you out, but these posts are really just feeding the trolls. You have to come down research and make a decision for yourself.

Good Luck and welcome if you chose to come. I will take NC anyday over the 'Noreasters I left in NY.
I agree with your comment that questions like this tend to feed the trolls, so to speak, but as people doing research the best way that they know how from the long distance/internet stand point, it's all we got. I am hoping and assuming that the informatin obtained here (like for me and my family) is just a starting point. After all, we need to narrow down our search so that we can figure out the best places to visit when we do. I personally have done this. I have gathered as much information as I could from this site. I then took that information and digged further on each topic and found what I could. We will be visiting the first week of March but until then, we will continue to gather as much information as possible. I also take what is said here with a grain of salt. I understand that what someone else might consider bad traffic, would depend on where I am coming from and so forth. Everything has to be taken with perspective. I have to be honest. I love reading all the negative stuff too because we can't think that everyone living in an area is happy and it can help us understand if it is the right place for us or not. All the information on this site has been a HUGE help to me in my research to move to NC....thank you all for your negative and positive comments....they are all needed.

The day I let a bunch of strangers on the internet help make a life changing decision for me is the day I cut off my internet connection.
As I responded to another poster, we are not using the internet to make a life changing decision, we are using the internet to get as much information as possible so that we can make an informed decision on where to start our search and where to visit. It is just another means of getting information and hearing it first hand from people who actually live there is a bonus. All the information has to be taken with a grain of salt and has to be put into perspective to the individual person and where they are coming from. All opinions, good and bad, help us understand the area better.

I too, am doing the same research you are doing. I am taking the information that I read here and then going elsewhere to research it some more and asking questions, ect. We are not making life decisions based on the information here, we are using the information here as a starting point to make an informed decision. I would love to compare notes with you if you dont' mind on the avenues that you are using for information. My boyfriend and I are visiting the first week in March and trying to get as much information as possible before our visit so that we know where to spend more time. I am aware that might change when we actually see it and we are very open minded people. Feel free to IM me anytime.
