About when is their 'season' up and they turn into moths? I constantly run into their little silk strings off my front and back porch and they are all over my car. I swear they weren't this bad last year, or the year before.

I'm getting them on my back deck, where they've fast-roped from trees 30 feet away.

You might want to watch/read this story. Banding your trees is important but I've been too lazy to do it myself.

Mine haven't been nearly as bad as they have been. And as I say that, they will go nuts and be awful.

I get home around 2am from work and I constantly am having to battle their threads just to get to, and through, the front door.

I am new to Charlotte, via New York. Never encountered these worms and are freaking me out. Just started getting bad on my deck. They get on me and the thread make me itch. Not going out until they are gone.

My neighborhood unites to band our trees every year. Haven't seen many thank God. It takes a village to fight them off.

Are they an invasive species?

I lived here a good while ago and I don't remember these canker worms. I remember the tent caterpillars, but I've not seen very many of those recently.
