Good cities for relocating surrounding Charlotte (Concord, Kannapolis: crime, school district, taxes)

I'm planning on moving to the Charlotte area. A friend told me about Kannapolis and Concord. What are the other cities that surround Charlotte that are low-cost and family friendly?

Lincolnton is not a town that i would suggest as a good area. Too much crime for the size of the town. Plus their policy is not the best.

Charlotte south and east Waxhaw, Monroe, Rock Hill, SC, Fort Mill, SC, Lake Wylie, SC, Lancaster, SC.

you pretty much summed up the Lake Norman area, for the most part, all family friendly towns.

Due to traffic, I would look for housing fairly close to where you will be working.

You would not want to live in Concord or Kannapolis and work in Ballantyne for instance.

Indian Trail/Union County.....but it definitely depends where you are working!

What are some of the differences between the nc and sc towns you listed? Housing cost, taxes, schools, etc.

Housing costs and taxes are generally cheaper on the SC side. The Fort Mill school district is one of the best in the region and is actually a big reason why more people (I suspect families with school-age children) are moving from Mecklenburg County to York County, SC than vice versa. Fort Mill is more dependent on Charlotte, being located just south of it, but more and more amenities are coming there everyday. Pretty much the same could be said of Lake Wylie, the only difference being...the lake. Rock Hill is a little larger and self-sufficient. The schools aren't as great as those in Fort Mill, but they aren't bad.

The actually town of Lancaster (not the portion of Lancaster County adjacent to Mecklenburg County just south of Ballantyne, an affluent suburban area of Charlotte) isn't really as appealing.

I live in Lincolnton and love it. It is quieter, safer, and less congested (about 35 minutes from Charlotte. Mark
