I tried using google directions to show how to get from Charlotte airport to Charlotte Amtrak and it showed no way at all via public transportation. Bus or taxi? Do they have those 24/7 ?

There's definitely a bus to/from Uptown- but it's not 24/7. Routes & Schedules
Then you would have to walk a short distance to get another bus to the Amtrak station. CATS - Error
It's bus number 5 from the Airport to the Transportation Center in downtown charlotte - it's every 20 minutes on weekdays.
Then bus number 11 (North Tryon) takes you to the Amtrak station from the Transportation center.
I don't know why Google transit is not working for Charlotte anymore - I checked other routes and it's not working.

And as you can see from the schedules, the buses don't run 24/7. If you arrive & need to get to the Amtrak station between midnight & 6 am, a cab's your best bet.
Also, you will need to give 7 hours of layover time between the scheduled arrival time on Amtrak and the airport. If amtrak screws up the airlines won't care. You've missed your flight. Going from CLT-DC via Amtrak: if you're 2 hours late thats pretty good.
Thanks a lot for the info. I think the buses will work but cab with bags sounds better. I'm actually not flying into Charlotte but taking a hop from hickory that drops people at the airport. Gotta love the NC transportation. Still beats 24 hours of torture traveling north via greyhound though.
Hi -- I wonder if anyone can tell me how easy it is to get from the Amtrak station to the Greyhound station in Charlotte? My college student is coming into town for a weekend and I need to get him back to school and was thinking of using Amtrak to Greyhound as the most pleasant and convenient (Amtrak alone won't work but Greyhound alone would but I think the train bus combo would be more pleasant) but am not sure how easy the transfer would be in Charlotte. He'd have over an hour to do the transfer.
