We are still fairly new to the area...what are some of your favorite family things to do in and around the Charlotte area? Thank you!

How old are your kids? When mine were younger, we were regulars at Discovery Place - they haven't been so interested in going, though, since my youngest was about 11, unless they're meeting friends there.

We can usually make a day of the Whitewater Center.

We've really enjoyed walking & biking along the Greenway since we moved to this neighborhood!

My youngest loooooves Laser Tag - we'd go every weekend if we could afford to.

I've babysat younger kids since Imaginon was finished, who really enjoy going! It's fun to park a little ways down the lightrail line, and ride the train to Imaginon. Imaginon also has an animation studio, for teens, and an area devoted just to teen patrons.

When my kids were younger, we took advantage of many of the wonderful parks here! Freedom Park, Reedy Creek, William R. Davie Park, Beatty Park will all favorites. We did different activities and classes through the parks, too, especially the nature programs at Reedy Creek. We're lucky there's so much green space in Charlotte!

I have an 8 year old and a 13 year old. I asked the same question a couple of years ago and someone on here recommended Dan Nichols Park. It's near Salisbury. It's a park with miniature golf, small train, petting zoo, paddle boats and gem mining. Very inexpensive and not that bad of a drive. We were very pleasantly surprised.

During the summer, we used to go to Discovery Place, then take the Gold Rush Orange Line (free shuttle during the week) down to the Green, and splash in the fountain there, and go to either the ice cream place there, or grab other food nearby (Fuel Pizza's always a favorite.)

A couple of the parks have spraygrounds; we liked the one at Veterans Park, since it's covered.

Ray's Splash Planet can be fun! It's an indoor water park.

Oh, yaeh, just saw this today: Big Splash - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte

They're day passes for the Great Wolf Lodge. If you're familiar with them, they don't offer day passes too often, you usually have to stay there for about $200/night to use their water park. I hear they sell out pretty quickly.

Also check out the activities pages in Charlotte Parent, lots of great info. Also consider asking this question on the Charlotte Mommies board.
