My arrangements to temporarily live with a relative have blown up, and I start a new job in Charlotte Oct. 1st. I can stay in the Matthews InTown Suites for a week or so.
I am looking for recommendations, or warnings, about apartments to the west of Charlotte, between Gastonia and Belmont. This is an area we've identified as an area we'd like to buy a house in, so it makes sense for me to rent in the vicinity. It'll probably be 5-6 months before my spouse and dogs are able to move, so I'm not looking for something huge. I'd like to keep the monthly rent below $700. Opinions on the following, all in Gastonia? Walker's Ridge, Robinwood Rd. Davis Crossing, Union Rd. The Patriots, Union Rd Quail Woods on Quail Woods Rd I will also post in and look at Craigs list on Friday. Thanks in advance! |

Opinions on the following, all in Gastonia?
Walker's Ridge, Robinwood Rd. (not sure) Davis Crossing, Union Rd. - Good Area The Patriots, Union Rd - Not So Great Area High Traffic and near alot of low income schools, housing, the shady areas. - Nope. Quail Woods on Quail Woods Rd - I beleive these are really old. There are a few newer apartment complexes being built too. Check out the Cloisters in Mount Holly, the area is busy but not seedy. You don't want to live near East Ridge Mall or The Hospital Caromont Health. Union Road Away from Garrison Blvd is nicer, Garrison and over towards Franklin is not so great and there becomes inner city issues that you don't want ot have to deal with. If you PM me I"ll be glad to help you. I've been in the area for 8 years so I'm pretty firmilary with where ot avoid and where it's ok. I'd share my former landlrod with you but it looks like he's going to keep my security deposit, so no rental referals for him. He was a good guy until he went slum lord this summer. Be careful with Craigs list too, because i Found that people relist the same place mutiple times with different prices and you don't want to get stuck with someone running a scam. Good LUck and enjoy the queen city. I will also post in and look at Craigs list on Friday. Thanks in advance![/quote] |

One of my aunts lived in Quail Woods back in the '90s. It's right off Robinwood. The apartments appeared to be kinda old, but the area in general is nice and quiet. Walker's Ridge is just down the road from Quail Woods, also off Robinwood Rd. While I've never been in a unit, from the outside they look really nice. The apartments are also kind of secluded and quiet. From what I've observed from looking in the Apartment Guide and Apartment Finder books, Walker's Ridge is one of the most expensive units in Gastonia. Anything around Robinwood Rd. would be a good deal.
Another apartment complex in Gastonia that I like that is in that area is River Wind. It's on Hudson, right by Aldi and Bilo and all that jazz. It's also one of the more expensive complexes. I would think it'd be a headache to get out of the complex though, especially in the morning if you're trying to go eastbound on Hudson toward Robinwood. Hope that helps! |
