Shelby will take center stage as the home of "The Hunger Games" heroine when the movie premieres this week. Scenes shot in the area have been promoted heavily in advertising of the movie.
Highly anticipated "The Hunger Games" will open in theaters this week with North Carolina as its backdrop, and tourism officials across the state are hoping for visitors eager to see the areas where the film was shot. Locations included Shelby, Hildebran, Charlotte and DuPont State Forest.
North Carolina hopes 'Hunger Games' draws tourists (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/03/18/3107250/nc-sites-develop-a-taste-for-fame.html - broken link)
I think will be interesting film, Ill have to check out. I understand part of it was filmed in Dupont Foest, I hope that place doesnt become crowded due to this film, as I was planning to visit there this summer.
I read some of it was filmed in one of the theaters in Charlotte - forgot which one. But it was scenes from the capital.
Not sure if it was this one, but they had a major film crew film in the knight theater, what was funny hair & make up was in the DEC, so there was several starnger than normal people around.

I've seen comments in the Shelby Star that they think that tourists will be pouring in & dropping huge amounts of money in Shelby. Really. . .I don't see that happening.
I didn't click on the link that the OP attached but I did read an article in CO yesterday that said they chose Shelby because it looked as run down and depressing as the district it was supposed to be in the book/movie. Not really sure what kind of light that puts Shelby (or "Shebby") in.

Uptown Shelby is nice. I believe that they filmed there as well. Shelby is a city of contrasts. Have you been there?

I do! My sons want to do a tour. We LOVE these books, and are SO excited about the movie! They're *thrilled* it was filmed here, and close by. If the movie's any good (and it looks like it will be), they want to see the places from the movie.
It's rare that something grabs all 3 of us, with such disparate ages & personalities, the way Hunger Games has. Harry Potter does, and Doctor Who does... not much else. We enjoy other things all together, but this story has really engaged us like hardly anything else has.
