Default Wise to use realtor for apartment hunting?

My husband just took a job in Charlotte. He starts May 15th. The office is located near the airport. The company is giving him a comp package for apartment and travel back to current home base for a year. Ultimately, we would like to buy a second home in the Charlotte area for a more permanent living situation. Would appreciate any recs for apartments areas near lakes, downtown or airport area. We are coming down in a week or so to do an onsite search. Would it be helpful to enlist an agent or can we do this ourselves?

In your budget you will have some nice choices and I do believe you can find something on your own.

To get you started I recommend you check out:

Birkdale Village (nearest to the lake)
Circle at Southend (nearest to uptown)
Spectrum at Southend (nearest to uptown)
Elizabeth Square (nearest to uptown)
Gramercy Square at Ayrsley (nearest to airport)

A lot of real estate companies have "relocation centers" which help you find an apartment. They don't charge (though I'm sure they get a commission) and they are of course hoping you'll remember them when needing a buyer's agent.

I used Allen Tate but I can't tell from their website if they do apartments anymore. Might be worth checking out.

Thanks, GCharlotte and LovesMountains. Those are great options. Actually, I have been receiving daily listings from Allen Tate for almost a year and have talked on the phone with them a few times. My husband began interviewing about a year ago so I have had my pulse on the area.
