If I said it was a miserable, horrible, disgusting act of violence I'm pretty sure someone would still say I didn't use the right words.

Everyone remembers this because random crimes such as these are so rare. And I believe this kid was from South Carolina (not that it matters). For the most part, if you're not involved in drugs, you're not going to have to worry about violent crime. Now, getting your car broken into seems pretty common around here. Home breakins are less common but happens more often than folks would like.

I've lived here over 10 years - in the University area, East Charlotte, Rock Hill, and uptown. I rode CATS buses late at night in all areas. The only time I've ever been a victim of a crime was getting my car broken into at the Stonecrest Shopping Center in South Charlotte.

Very rare indeed....However, these are the kinds of crimes that you never forget and some people use them to prove all of Charlotte is unsafe and headed for Detroit.

I would say crimes like these are rare in Detroit, too.

Again, violent crime is most likely not going to be a problem for anyone who isn't involved in drugs or who doesn't congregate where people involved in drugs congregate.

This thug is from Rock Hill, SC not South Charlotte and his act was for induction into this gang. Big problem is, these gangs are still around and thugs are still wanting to be inducted.

Murder is the method of getting "up in the club".

The media and CMPD reported this murder as a robbery. Did info come out later about the gang initiation stuff? Not disputing you, just wanting to substantiate it. I never did feel it made sense as a robbery.
