IS/IT in Charlotte
Anybody here with an IT background, I need your help. I've being thinking about moving to Charlotte, so I have about 2 months to make up my decision, I will be moving from Jax Florida, my main concern is the IT job market, the real estate and taxes. If you know anything about these sectors, I would greatly appreciate your inputs, thanks in advance.

What area of IT are you in? Programmer or DBA, you should have no prob anywhere you go. Tech support/Help Desk is another matter. Hubby is a Help Desk Manager and it was not easy to come across an IT job for him for the money he was used to. Lots of entry level help desk jobs for those that want 'em.
Charlotte is really more know for hires in banking, healthcare, education and retail from a general perspective. You'll prob have more luck in IT if you moved to Raleigh--as there's a bigger IT presence.
Hope that helps!

I want to add that Raleigh having a bigger IT presence is dependant on what you do - The it presence there is in software development.
The problems with tech support/help desk as many companies have put these jobs oversees.
While some do still keep local people, the demand for these types of jobs does to a point, outweigh the need.
If you search for your field in charlotte you will see jobs, as I have posted before, it really depnds on what you do in IT, IT is a broad range -
While lisa notes the charlotte does have a higher presence of finance co's, healthcare, ed, all these types of companies do use IT too, but is there IT focus in NC ??
All companies whether it be charlotte or ral use IT again, it depends on your expertise in that area.

FYI - today in charlotte I saw the following job opening:
Information Technology-Analyst
Sr PM with mainframe
Global Service Tech Support Director
Data Center Manager
Exec Director - Inf Tech Svcs
SAP consultant
Datawarehouse project mgr.
if you searches colleges and gov't they too have MANY it jobs but of course they do not pay as much as the private sector.
More of the problem is not so much there are no jobs, but are you (not anyone specific) qualified. Companies are being more picky with who they are hire) and BTW and have also seen jobs were they will pay for re-lo

Thanks a lot for your tips. My field is in networking in general and specifically network security. I do programming when needed, but I'm not a programmer in essence.

Weis, you said it well, Banking, healthcare and other use IT, thus they do have a considerable amount of IT personnel, especially when they have lots of Banking Headquaters there.

I am in I/T and have found there to be numerous opportunities for me here. The banks do provide a lot of it but I think there is also a pretty good sized I/T consulting base here due to the airport.

You are right on, Weis!! That's exactly what I tell my hubby--people in helpdesk are are being outsourced! I'm a recruiter for a telecom and I agree! I truly believe he's basically in a dead end job that will be defunct in the next 10 years for sure!
