9,000 gallons in water stolen from South Park home (Charlotte, Archdale: buying, price)

Park South Station resident Arthur Mattmiller told police that he got a water bill covering the period from March 1st to May 1st charging him for 9,000 gallons of water.

Aqua North Carolina came out to Mattmiller's home off of Archdale Drive and conducted leak test but found no water leaks, according to the report.
When Mattmiller arrived home Tuesday evening, he called police after he found three water hoses connected together screwed into his outside water spigot.

How the holy hell do you steal 9,000 gallons of water? It's not like you could just drive up in a flatbed truck with 50 gallon drums and fill them individually.

Also, how do you not notice 3 water hoses connected to your house?

The average household of 4 people use 400 gallons of water a month. This is for a two month period. That would still be 9 x more than the use of an average household for a two month period. What are they doing with this water? And is it more than one household stealing it? A tanker truck holds 9000 gallons of water..just a side note.

Ouch. I think they have to pay big $$ to get their water too since they are not on city water (even though they are in city limits). Wonder if he will still have to pay the bill?

I wonder if it was a neighbor who couldn't afford the very high priced water there?

sounds to me like either a neighbour filled up his pool or a tanker that supplies water to pool owner decided to make a quick buck...

That happened to me once when I was on vacation. (OK, not 9000 gallons). I was fairly sure that a neighbour hooked up his hose to my outdoor spigot to keep his lawn watered. Could never prove it, but, it was really odd that when we were in a drought, his lawn was beautiful and healthy and somehow I used almost $100.00 worth of water in a month when I was gone for two weeks.

I think it is the CMUD's fault. They have already admitted to buying tens of thousands of faulty water meters.

Where's that statistic come from ?

If 4 people each flush the toilet 3 times a day, that alone is close to 400 gallons. What about baths / showers, laundry, dish washing, cooking, watering the lawn, washing the cars, etc. ?
