Please recommend a nice hotel within the 100-129 price range in this area. I want to use uptown as a focal point to start then branch out.
P.S. If you know a better location to start out at then branch out into the city, please let me know.
Well, that's a tough price range for uptown Charlotte I'm afraid. The ONLY place in that price range that I would suggest you consider uptown is the Blake. But it's kind of old and dumpy from what I've heard.
What exactly are you trying to see in the city? It could be that staying out a bit would be much better for you if you can't increase your nightly budget
Holiday Inn at 6th and College might be a good bet at that price.
I don't think you can get a room at the Holiday Inn for less than $150 my friend, but of course day of the week and time of year might make that price go down. It's not a place I'd ever pay to stay in though.

Hmm. It seems you're right. Although I remember staying someone saying $120 last summer when they stayed here for a wedding. Maybe they got a block discount?
Look at the Hampton Inn and Hilton Garden Inn uptown (both are right next door to each other).
Not sure what the going rates are but, several years ago, when I used to travel here for work, I stayed at both properties frequently and rates could vary anywhere from $100 to over $150 per night.
If you don't mind doing a short drive and parking, you can usually find cheaper rates at some of the hotels a few miles out closer to the airport - yes it is not the best area, but there major chain hotels (Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites, etc.) around there too - not all
I would try the name-your-price option on Priceline. You can specify downtown and choose 4 or 3 star - you might get a top hotel at this price if you bid.
Looking at the Blake online - I think it looks nice and it's in your price range. But it's kind of in a dead part of uptown though it's not unsafe.
Personally, if I was not looking to live downtown, I wouldn't be staying downtown. If you're looking in south Charlotte, maybe a hotel near South Park would be a good bet. North Charlotte, maybe a hotel in Huntersville. If you're looking north and south, maybe downtown will work.
Having a date in mind will help, too. We can help you avoid road closures and traffic if there is anything going on in a particular area. Example, May 24-26 is Speed Street downtown. I believe they are there the whole week getting set up. If not the whole week, the majority of it, and staying at the Holiday Inn might be a little loud and busy for your wants.
I bet the Omni is higher than most hotels downtown.
