Lupie's is a long time Charlotte institution. However, be aware that their sanitation scores can sometime dip into the low 80's. Haven't been there in a while, and it doesn't really bother me, but just be aware.

ordered the wings there yesterday... I wasn't aware of their sanitation score but looking at the set up I wouldn't be surprised.

Smithfield's dips their chicken as well but I'm not a fan of it...

I watched Diners and Drive Thru's or whatever it's called and they had the spot on Independence called 21 on an episode for best dipped fried chicken.

I haven't been yet but I'm curious to see what their chicken taste like....

The last time I was there there was a lot of trash and food on the kitchen floor, and the bins holding the prepared food were a wreck. Not what I'd call enticing.

Is that South 21? There's two of them on Independence. Haven't eaten there in so long I've forgotten what their food is like.

Here's their history - once in the mid 70's - and in the low-mid 90s since & before then.

Mecklenburg County, NC - Digital Health Department

I wonder if they got new management, or employees who just don't care? I mean, it was never about a sterile environment at Lupie's, but it seems like things are slipping a little bit.

Most likely you are talking about South 21 Drive In. They have been there since the 1950s with the same menu since that time. Best Onion Rings in town. The Fish-O-Burger is good, so is the BBQ and the hamburger steak smothered in onions. The chicken is good too. They also have a very unique vinegar based cole-slaw. It's very good.

I highly recommend it.

I just looked at Price's website...

Price's Chicken Coop

and noticed this:

ALL FOOD GUARANTEED SATISFACTORY

YEAH! That's a glowing endorsement of their food. But I do like their fish sandwich, if I hadn't mentioned that previously.

Nothing at all. But a guarantee of only the lowest possible acceptance level doesn't engender a lot of interest. Not much excitement there.
