Been involved in some very heavy threads here latley and as I sit in my office this morning I wanted to post something a little lighter.

My wife and I have lived here since January 2010. We are moving out of the state on October 1, so officially have 4 months left here today.

I have been told by a few people that I should slap myself if I don't try Price's Chicken Coop before I leave Charlotte. Anyone second this opinion?

Also, does anyone here have any other recomendations of "must-do's" before leaving Charlotte (or technically Indian Trail)?

We are on a very strict budget since we're moving across the country in 4 months, so not looking to spend a lot of money. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw the "Hidden Gems" thread. Sorry

If you have the slightest interest in history, go to the Kings Mountain National Battlefield & Cowpens.

I have two, both related.
1. - Take a tour of Olde Mecklenburg brewery on a Saturday (2, 3 & 4). They are making some of the highest rated German style beers in the country.

2. - Get out to Noda Brewing Company and get a flight of all their beer before they become Charlotte's first "famous" brewery. They are making some fantastic beer and growing at a very fast rate.

Both of these will cost you a pint or 2 of beer.

Seconded. Note that they are cash only and you better know what you want when you get to the front of the line.

If you like Prices, then do yourself a favor and go to the Chicken Box on N. Tryon. That's a true hidden gem. I went to Prices the first time when I was 7 (I am now 53), they were still raising and killing chickens next door. Chicken Box smacks Prices in the dirt.

I've been to Price's several times, and don't see the appeal of their chicken. OTOH I really like their fish sandwich.

I don't understand the fascination with Price's!! When I moved here, everyone would tell me "YOU HAVE TO TRY PRICES CHICKEN COOP!" So I did.... Wow, what a disappointment. The chicken has absolutely no flavor. It's like they took the pieces of chicken and dumped it in the fryer without seasoning it before OR after. If you want good chicken, I recommend Leroy Fox on Sharon Amity, that is amazing stuff, and the staff is great.
