Sorry, but I've lived in plenty of places with a lot of diversity, but this is not what you call diversity. It's the armpit of society in an area that appears much too nice for it.
I think that could happen anywhere.

in my opinion the university area is one of the least desirable areas to live in charlotte.

There are so much worse places to live
Univ area is huge. Just because there are a couple questionable places doesn't mean it isn't good overall. There are nice places for example the Back Creek area.

Places like NoDa is full of crime but I don't see anyone bashing it.

..and how do you protect your kids from this? Do you have black tint and soundproof windows?

You make it sound like UC is the only place with cars with loud speakers.

I think the University area has everything to be a great area UNCC, Greenways, Office Park, and shopping. But the problem is that it does not have a clear road map to develop into a great area. Prefect example of what the University area could be more like is more of a small town like Greenville, SC but with UNCC being the center.

UC has some real nice areas and they also have some sketchy areas. Not sure why some are painting it with a broad thug brush based on the shopping/lake area on weekends/late nights
