Cellebrite is a box. It needs a physical phone on which to work. It can read a SIM card or connect to many, many phones. The one Ito cannot crack is a BlackBerry with no Media Card, that is internally encrypted (a BlackBerry option) and having a strong and unguessable device password.
What Cellebrite cannot do is to pick up calls, SMStexts and data off-air.
What CMPD will be doing is what many other Police forces are doing is to systematically capture the Contact list from suspects phone.es as well as any SMStexts and any emails or photos (good luck with that, guys).
What they will do with all this data is anyone's guess. Mine is that they will end up with sooo much data that they will be unable to correlate it. I am not being nasty to the cops but have a year or so they will have so much data that it will become unmanageable.
In one or two cases, there will be information that will further a case but mostly they are going to pick up messages between hubby & wifey and a bunch of meaningless SMStexts about pizzas as well as whatever rubbish pics people have on their phones. Look at you r phone to verify this.
TY for that info, Krokus. I couldn't figure out how this could affect the "average guy on the street" and you have settled that in my mind.
