After working as a freelance writer for 20 years while raising a family, I'm ready to get a "real" job again. I'd like to get my feet wet by picking up some assignments through a temp agency, knowing that this may open some doors. Are there any Charlotte-area temp agencies that stand out (either for good or bad reasons)? Any suggestions or warnings would be welcome.

I did temp work years ago for the company that's now called Adecco. It went by a different name then. Lots of varied assignments, several offers for permanent positions.

Before that, I was placed in a job by Robert Half; they did a great job matching me to an employer.

Good luck!

GCharlotte, I started out in journalism, but my last regular, full-time job was working in communications for a large bank. I continued working for the bank as a freelancer, writing speeches and news releases until a series of mergers eliminated those opportunities. I've continued writing brochures, speeches and news releases, as well as writing/producing newsletters. But writing from an "empty nest" is now a little more isolating than I'd like, which is one of the reasons I'd like to re-enter the workforce. I like writing speeches, news releases and articles, and I enjoy producing newsletters and other documents using desktop publishing software.

Yes, CMellin, I know that unemployment is high, but that doesn't mean I should give up.

CharlotteGal, thanks for your suggestion and good wishes!
