Default best public schools

If housing price is not an issue, what public school area is considered the best?

What you may want to do is check this site:

NC School Report Cards

It has school report cards...you can click on different schools and get performance reports. You may want to start with High Schools and then look at which middle schools feed into them. Sometimes the site can be difficult to navigate -- just DM me and I would be happy to help.

If I had the choice of living anywhere, I would probably choose Longview, Firethorne (both in Union County) or Ballantyne Country Club

Have you thought about Union County? That's where the Porter Ridge School District is located. I live in the district and hear nothing but great things about the schools. I dont plan to leave this area because of the Porter Ridge reputation. It's a brand new school that just opened in 2005. Porter Ridge is still fairly rural so their overcrowding doesn't seem to be as bad the other areas. From the outside, the school looks beautiful. It appears very spacious and engineered quite nicely.
