You guys are reading too much into this. The dems are broke. They dont have the backing from large corporations like the GOP has. Also, NC and unions dont mix so the afl-cio is not contributing like they normally would to a non right to work state.. Check out the details and you guys will see. They have a big problem on their hands.
They chose not to receive donations from large corporations to support the convention; not because the big boys wouldn't come off the cash. Most, if not all corporations strategically donate to both political parties.
I kind of like it, why waste so much money on grandstanding and touting how GREAT thou are? Maybe the GOP should scale-back that looney tune circus as well; Sure, the GOP is all about cost cutting.

It's definitely harder to talk about how great you are after 4 years in office....
I think it is the other way around. Dems have been very critical of businesses that are "too big to fail". It makes sense that Dems would choose not to accept corporate donations for a convention that really isn't all that important. What is important are the issues of the day and the citizens who deal with these issues. If Obama wins again, he will be the candidate with the fewer number of corporations to pay back for their generous convention donations.
Some people see the RNC's $55 million as "success". I see it as corporations buying a president. IMO, the people should be the ones who buy the president through their votes (and nothing else). I haven't been a huge fan of Obama due to him bailing out the banks and not legalizing pot. However, he did end the war which IMO is the biggest factor in the price drop of gasoline. He also did not renew Bush's tax breaks to oil companies for ethanol (which should help bring down the cost of food items).
I've stated in the past that I'm an independent voter who leans left. I don't have an issue with a guy/gal simply because of the "R" or "D" in front of their names. IMO, Obama and McCrory are the best men for the jobs, period. It stinks though that partisan politics will make it almost impossible for the two best men to both win NC.
Anyways, getting back to the move into uptown. I personally thought that Concord was a good idea. It would have been a good way to show some love to a demographic that many Democratic presidents ignore (blue-collar suburban whites). I'm sure money was a factor, but somehow Cabarrus county should make an effort to continue with its plans; perhaps on a smaller scale. The Saturday and Sunday before the official events would be perfect for a "family concert day" at the Speedway. Just a thought...

Amen. We might get that combo. Unfortunately with Pat taking office that might drag some tea party people into office.... Then we will just be out of luck because I am assuming they are going to reject a lot of infrastructure bills.
At least we will have a pro-Charlotte, pro-light rail, former Charlotte mayor in office.
It was canceled they were planning on over 100k up at the speedway, sure they are saying they are moving it uptown, but where in uptown can you hold 100k. You can't it was canceled. Spin how you want.

So I checked the details and found what you said isn't true. The Democrats have raised more corporate money than the GOP. The DNC is broke because they are bigger spenders. Specifically:
DNC Raised $210M, spent $174M, and have $43M cash on hand
GOP Raised $187M, spent $112M, and have $74M cash on hand
US Department of Homeland Security gave each party $50M for their conventions

(these amounts are to the RNC and DNC and don't include amounts given to the candidates or directly to the Democratic Party or GOP)
I think both parties will have smaller conventions because people aren't excited about either candidate.
Not sure how "big" the problem is though...
The GOP has raised a TON of money from large corporations.
The Dems are 27 million short of their goal for the convention for the reasons I mentioned earlier (large corporations and union lack of money). That was the main reason why they are moving it back to Uptown.
Not saying good or bad....it is what it is....
