I will be in Charlotte for a next few days. Did some research but have questions to Charlotte area natives. What is the best BBQ place (excluding chain restaurants) and what interesting places to see in the area, museums etc.

BBQ in the Charlotte area......YUCK!

If you drive 1hr North on I-85 you will reach Lexington, NC (BBQ Capital of NC)...the 2 best are Lexington BBQ & Speedy's...just ask the Moderator Sunnykayak...he can attest to this. I would NEVER eat BBQ any where else...just saying.

There's plenty of good BBQ around town. Is it as good as one or two of the best? Maybe not. But yuck is an exaggeration. There is very little food I'd drive an hour to get, and I like food.

I like Old Hickory House on North Tryon. Their Brunswick Stew is unlike any I've had elsewhere.

Gary's is very good in China Grove, College Q in Salisbury is highly regarded, and I also like Winks in Salisbury.

Folks saying this is the best, or it ain't no good are charlatans. It is what you like, and I like it all!!!!

I second Old Hickory House on North Tryon. Used to go there for the bruswick stew. Also, Bubba's on Sunset Ave, or if you like the Eastern NC style, minced vinegar-based BBQ, Bill Spoons on South Blvd is good. Mac's Speed Shop, also on South Blvd has good Texas-style Brisket and BBQ.
