I will be working in Concord and want to keep my commute under thirty minutes. I am 25, single, female. I realize South End and Uptown are ideal for young people, but those are too far for me. What is the next best thing? I don't need a raving nightlife, but I also want to be around people my age who don't have children. My budget is $750. Thanks.
Also, some people have said the University area is good, but others say it is run-down or slummy. And I don't particularly want to be around a bunch of undergrads. Should I consider it anyway?
my personal opinion is no, that isn't a good area for a 25 yr old hottie like urself. I lived on mallard creek when I moved here, it's not 'run down' at all but also not particularly young. I think $750 is doable for that area.
What part of Concord will you be working in? There are some young people around Birkdale Village but depending on where you're working the commute could be closer to 45 minutes.

Interesting, I keep coming back to Birkdale Village. I love the idea of living in the apartments over the shops. It would be a 25ish minute drive for me to get to work. In the interest of trying to make it even shorter (and maybe finding slightly less expensive housing), how far east of Birkdale Village itself do you think I could get and still be in a good part? Past 77? I don't know if there are apartments there or not.
I live in Bexley property, it's quiet, safe, and not a lot of students around. I have a 1 bedroom that is huge and it actually quite nice. The only down side is there's not alot of stuff happening around here.
Birkdale is great and has a lot more going!

Are you surrounded by families and kids there? What do you mean by not a lot of stuff...? Do you go to Uptown for fun then?
There are some families (not a lot), some older people, and some young people so it's mixed. I do go uptown and to plaza midwood for fun. Noda is Only 15 mins away and I can get to south park in 35 so its not bad and it's safe and affordable.
I have lived here for 2 years and I loved it! We are only moving because we need more space and there are NO 2 bedrooms open and 3 bedrooms are just too expensive. Check them out and if have questions just let me know.

Very True! Unless you got a room mate or lived in huntersville near Birkdale. But then I would live in the area you asked about because its more afforable and you can get to Birkdale in 15 mins from my place and your not as far from uptown and the city.
Another really cool place is Worthington which starts at $756, but its nice and there are a lot of young people.

so are there no areas north or east of charlotte (towards concord) that would be good?
