Default Need to find apt in safe area that will rent to felon ASAP

I am a 29 yo female in desperate need of an apt before Aug 15. I was convicted of felony b&e in 2007 because my ex bf kept his stolen stuff at my place. I have turned my life around I just graduated from UNC and I have a job in CLT. But cannot find anyone that will rent to me. I am looking for a place uptown 1br for $800-1100. Please help.

Do an advance search and make sure to click the tab, no criminal check.

Thanks never heard of that site before. Do any locals know anything about the safety and demographics of these 2 apt complexes?

The Dorchester is located in Pineville (SW of Charlotte). This is not at all close to uptown.

Grandin Road in very close to updown - I recommend you check the crime statistics for that area. I wouldn't feel safe living there.

Glad to hear you have turned your life around - have you checked into getting your felony expunged? If it is a possibility I would recommend it. You are going to have a very difficult life with a felony conviction.

I would look for an apartment leased by an individual landlord rather than a company. This will require more searching but a lot of apartment companies have strict policies. Check out padmapper.com or hotpads or some other sites.

You might also search Craigslist for the listings of individual homes for rent. As these are typically rented out by private individuals, you might find some folks that will tailor their requirements to your particular situation in light of your turnaround or not even care to begin with, unlike corporate-run apartment communities that have unyielding policies recommended to them by their attorneys.

Still finding mostly dead ends and usually not a very high response rate to my inquiries on craigslist. Any other suggestions?

Sorry unc23 - don't know what else to suggest. I personally would not rent to a felon so I can understand your difficulty. Good luck.
