I recently went to my dentist, and he said I need to have a root canal done soon if I want to stop the pain from my broken tooth from becoming much, much worse.

Extraction was an option, but considering that I will need to get my wisdom teeth removed as my next rocedure, removing a tooth may only cause havoc and major migration.

Any recommendations for somewhere where I can get a root canal done well, and won't completely break my back (considering that as an uninsured patient, I will have to pay it all out of pocket)?

You need to leave Charlotte and its metro to find an "affordable" root canal I'm afraid.

Even then, expect to pay about $1600

I am sorry you are going through this - been there done that myself.

Look at going to Columbia, SC. Personally I went to Virginia.

Is a dental school an option?

Dental Insurance generally isn't worth it... $39.00 a month, and most have limits of $1,000 to $2,000 in total annual claims.

If you do the math it is easier paying out of pocket.

$1,600 is about right for the cost of this service.

You could try Smile Starters on N tryon... they treat the welfare patients etc... I wouldn't trust the work though.

I went to a local dentist here in Charlotte with a dental discount program that I bought online & was quoted $1250 for a root canal & crown. I chose an extraction instead. I had a root canal with a dentist local to me in Massachusetts & was told it would also be $1250. YMMV.

The only dental school nearby (NC State) Would require me to wait at least three months to find out whether I would be selected. I fear three months may be too long of a time to do so. I may still try in order to get the wisdom tooth extractions done, but the root canal may need to be sooner.

Does your dentist take Care Credit? Its a credit card for select healthcare services that often has no interest for 6, 12 and I think 18 months. If you qualify (and of course can afford to pay it off in however many months to avoid interest) that may be the best way to go.

A lot of dentists will let you work out a payment plan. Some even have financial companies that do it.

After seeing these prices listed above, I am happy with the quote I just got from the Dentist I have been seeing for last decade in Cornelius.

I was quoted $720 for root canal therapy.
