OP, I know it's important for you to be near your family, but have you considered that perhaps, no matter where you live, there will only be 1 home? I say that in the vein of pointing out that there is nothing wrong with moving someone else, and seeing if you like it, especially if you are younger. The good thing is, if you don't like where you live, there is nothing wrong with going home. but just keep in mind that if you decide to just keep trying different places, the result is going to be the same.

It's possible given what you said, but will be tough. My recommendation is for you to look in the Raleigh-Durham area, The Triangle. It sounds as if it might be more what you are looking for and different enough from ATL to make it worthwhile.
