What people fail to realize is people that relocate normally, or should I say often times, bring there attitudes and baggage with them! Maybe if the "new" folks accepted the fact that they bring a different "vibe" with them, people like me would be understanding. I am not saying people aren't entitled to there own lifestyle. I have an issue when transplants try to turn a place upside down..Could it be "homesickness" just never wears off?

what has changed to make "old fla" (friendly, nice ppl, lots of trees/nature) now into "new fla" (condos, crowded roads and beaches, rude ppl)? if any of you florida natives are reading this, you know what i am talking about. it looks like folks in charlotte are worried about it too by reading these posts...

Would somebody please tell me that all this talk about abrasive New Yorkers and the like is based on isolated incidents and just blown out of proportion by a few disgruntled people who actually take the time to post their gripes! Please!!

My wife is being promoted and relocated to the Charlotte area which means I am being relocated as well and at the risk of sounding snobbish, I really hadn't expected to be moving to little NY. I have really enjoyed my past visits to the south over the years especially the hospitality/friendliness, laid back attitude and slower pace. We will not be living in Charlotte proper but probably to the north (been looking at homes in China Grove although we know nothing about any of the areas).

I guess all I am asking is for someone to reassure me that the majority of people are still friendly, laid back and have fun accents (I am from Mich and my wife is Australian so I like accents, please don't be offended). I have plenty of pizza places here, but no real good places for bbq, sweet tea or deep fried pickles. Last but not least, I really don't have a problem exchanging my Lions jersey for a Panthers jersey, years of disappointment have jaded me.

Dr. Munchy, if you are looking to be outside the Charlotte metro area, which China Grove really is, you should find yourself among many natives and other southerners. The transplants from the northeast tend to cluster in the north end of Charlotte's city limits, especially near Lake Norman. You can also find a fair amount of them in south Charlotte - but we're still trying to hang on to our southern majority down here

I should have added, where will your wifes job location be? If you tell us we can recommend areas for you to check out on that end of the county. You really DO NOT want to live in China Grove if she works in Ballantyne!

My first experience with deep fried pickles was at the Penguin, featured on the food network. YUm, now I'm hooked. do a search. (i can live without swt tea) GASP!

My wife will be working on David Taylor Dr, zip-28262. She doesn't mind driving 30 minutes or so to work although I don't feel the same way so hopefully I will find work close to wherever we end up living. I am glad to hear that outside of Charlotte has managed to maintain it's original southern flavor, I'm not a big city type person anyhow. As far as the Penguin is concerned, I actually printed out their menu at home the other night, looks like a place we will definitely visit!

Well, that is the University area she'll be working in. China Grove will be more than 30 minutes to and from this highly trafficked area I'm afraid.

I would like to suggest you check out instead the small Cabarrus County communities of Midland or Mt. Pleasant. The commute to those areas would involve I485, instead of I85, and would be much better. These are nice, quiet rural areas, though I have to warn you, still close enough to Charlotte that you will most likely encounter newcomers from the northeast to a degree, though nothing like at the hot spot areas near the lake.

The Penguin has awesome food, but again, it is small (you will likely have to wait), and it is smoky.
