If there is a good hotel nearby, call them and ask who they use for reliable transportation. They usually know the best people and/or are more reliable since they probably get kickbacks.

I never take a taxi myself since airport parking is so darned cheap.

Used this company numerous times to and from CLT. They were always on time, picking me up at 4:15am for my 6:00am flight up to JFK. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

I've always been happy with Yellow Cab's service. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes for one, so I imagine if you set up a reservation, they'll be there for you.

Any taxi outside that has a meter and charges $2.50 a mile and maybe a little extra for luggage will likely be reliable. They normally use their GPS to ensure that milage is close and there is no chance of getting lost. The people that are allowed to work out of the airport do not want to lose the privilege of being able to operate there, so you shouldn't have to worry. There is usually a standard $25 charge to uptown. And, there is an additional $2.50 charge for each person after the first two.

This is not really what the OP asked for, but the rate from anywhere in uptown to/from the airport should be $25.00. The city sets that rate. Any taxi company that charges you more is juking you, from my understanding.

I think there is the $2.50 pick up fee though.

You are right in both cases. I didn't answer his question and there is a $2.50 pick up charge.
