West of Charlotte, the best high schools in this year's results were:

Lincoln County

Lincoln County Schools North Lincoln High 90.7 Yes

Gaston County

Gaston County Schools Bessemer City Early College 9-12 92.4 No

Gaston County Schools Highland School of Technology 99.8 Yes

Bessemer City Early College will be moved to the main campus of Gaston College in the fall & renamed. The district was unhappy with the results in Bessemer City. It failed again this year.

Highland is a magnet school & consistantly is the best school in the district.

Cleveland

Cleveland County Schools Cleveland Early College HS 97.9 Yes

Cleveland County Schools Kings Mountain High 89.2 Yes

If interested in any other school just type school name in link below:

ABCs
Not sure if you were only looking at traditional public schools but there were a couple schools with scores over 99:

Collaborative College for Technology (Statesville): 100.0
Union County Early College: 99.6
Central Academy of Technology: 99.1

edit: and not to point out the obvious but you left out quite a few that were higher than some of the ones you quoted in your "ranking." I know you weren't saying that's all of them but it is somewhat misleading to someone unfamiliar with the area.

Thanks GoPhils. I'm hoping for as much information as possible because, until spring, people will be looking at old information on the education websites.

We usually go by high schools for recommendations, but I'm not at all opposed to people posting elementary, intermediate, or middle schools.

I didn't look at them that closely, but I just went to the map search and there's a link to open it in Excel which allows for easy sorting.

I pulled up the three districts, using the map search. I may have missed it, but I didn't see an early college for Lincoln County. Gaston had good scores in a lot of schools but they failed. Highland is proof that kids are getting a good education in most schools in Gaston County, so I went with that. People can use it to make their own determination of the other schools.

What is the point of worrying about differences of a few percentage points when the school system has decided such comparisons are meaningless and won't provide them at this level of granularity anymore?

My thinking was to list only the traditional high schools with over 1,000 students (leaving out the special ones, magnet schools, etc). I have no way of attaching an excel sheet here, but it should be easy to group them or even better as mentioned one can do own search in database.

As a parent one of the best things we can do for our kids is to have them grow up in the best environment we can afford. And as a newcomer there are very few things that can tell us about best available schools (for our budget).
Since real estate agents are not supposed to let us know, scores is all we have in making a decision for our kids future.

Of course I agree that a few percentage points are not going to make a huge difference and most important is each kid drive to success and parents involvement in kids education. But also there is nothing wrong to give respect to best achieving schools, not all schools and school environments are equal.

With the new A-F scale, will other factors be taken into account or will it simply be assigned on the proficiency scores alone? For example, in other states with a similar models other factors (subgroup performance, AYP, etc.) are included when calculating a school grade. Due to those factors, a school with a 70% proficiency could still be an "A" school and ranked the same as a school with 95%.
From what I have gathered from the initial articles on the new system, it is simply based on proficiency scores so the push for the overall cut off points (90,80, etc.) will be intense but perhaps the focus on subgroups might be less so.
Is anyone aware of the specifics of the new plan?
