How do you feel about firemen from out of state flying in to contain huge fires? Same thing IMO....

I don't care at all. Why would it matter?

I am relieved and very pleased, indeed, that there will be additional law enforcement here for this huge event. It really speaks well of the dedication of our men and women who serve in law enforcement, to be willing to leave their families, in order to come here and help ensure that the peace is kept during this convention.

I would think this has been quite the tactical challenge to coordinate and I applaud all those who have come together to make it work.

The law is the law. If folks are misbehavin' -- it doesn't matter whether the officer on the scene (or making the arrests) is "from" here or not . . . they are representing local law enforcement.

I seriously don't expect Charlotte to become a police state just b/c a convention is here. But I could see crime increasing b/c law enforcement was stretched thin. This is reassuring, actually.

JAMES: you started this thread so I hope I don't offend you if I ask you a direct question about this post and the other one you made in re: to police riot equipment purchases.

I am wondering if you think we are going to end up with some sort of "police state" action in Charlotte during the DNC? Are you concerned about the ramp up with LE b/c you think it means there is going to be some sort of lock down military law sort of thing going on during the DNC?

I do not mean to be disrespectful, but with this thread and the other one and then the one on the low flying plane . . . just makes me wonder if you are overly anxious about having the DNC convention here or if you have heard some kind of prediction about riots breaking out, etc.

I don't understand why anyone would object. Anyone that wants to protect citizens is O.K. in my book. I too would welcome firemen as well if ever needed.
