Nurse hoping to relocate soon, but no job prospects so far........ (Charlotte: insurance, employment)

Hi All,

I have been wanting to move to NC for quite sometime and after visiting Charlotte I think this might be the place. I have been applying for jobs on-line and haven't had much luck at all. I am an RN, but I am specifically looking for jobs as a case manager in a community setting or for an insurance company.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to snag a job in this area or know of someone hiring? I know many have advised against moving without a job first, but at the rate I am going I will never get there. Thanks for your insite and advice in advance.

Hi NCD!

Have you tried directly contacting HR departments of some of the big insurance companies here (even if they are not running ads). Sounds like you have particular skills that would put you high on the list for qualified applicants. Do you have any experience working with behavioral healtchcare providers? That might be another route . . .

Perhaps you could get a list of all insurance companies here from the Chamber of Commerce to send your resume to?

Try neighboring counties such as Iredell, Gaston, York, Lancaster, Lincoln, or Cabarrus. Employment competition isn't as high as Mecklenburg in those surrounding counties (mainly due to the fact that Mecklenburg generally pays a little more). In some cases, taking a slightly lesser paying job in the burbs is better than having no job at all in Mecklenburg.

Thanks for the input. I have tried calling some of the companies with not much luck. However, you all had some great suggestions I haven't thought of yet and will them a go.
