I have a friend that is retiring from the Armed Services, he is very much wanting to move to Charlotte where I am, however, he also wants to find a job that will allow him to maintain his top secret security clearance. Does anyone have any insights, ideas, websites as to how he may start his search, I have already given him the generic, career builder, Charlotte.com etc, but, I think these jobs are more of a need to know someone kind of thing. His military job was intelligence. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Also, any companies that require such clearances would be helpful, thanks again for all of your input

You could try General Dynamics which has been around for a few years in Charlotte.

Your friend should check out clearancejobs.com. It is run by the same people as Dice and it targets jobs that require a clearance. Check all the major defense contractors. They can always use project managers with clearances. Sorry I don't have anything specific to the Charlotte area.

As someone who is in the realm of security clearances, I can tell you the opportunities are limited in Charlotte. Has he considered the FBI who has an office in Charlotte? There may be a few Homeland Security positions available as well. Sounds like he may be a good candidate for CIA, but that'd put him in Virginia for a while, same with the FBI--Langley or Quantico.

I think once you are older than 37 the Federal Gov't will no longer take you as an applicant.

Try USAJOBS.COM.

Also check into Duke Power. They have a nuclear energy plant which you need some serious credentials to be a higher up at....

Oh, you can certainly go to work for the federal government when you are older than 37. Though, you won't be hired for certain positions - such as special agent and other law enforcement. That being said there are plenty of federal jobs and contractor jobs that require a clearance. Most are in DC.

Try applying thru major companies in DC - SAIC, General Dynamics, CSC, etc and see if any have local offices in Charlotte. Many jobs are "virtual" any more. Mine is.

Good luck.

Sorry, should have elaborated. But they will not put you through the federal academy if you are over 37. I know because I looked into the US Marshalls.

edit: and yes I know that the US Marshalls and FBI have a different academy, but the requirements stand the same, atleast from what I've read on their websites.
