We just relocated to Waxhaw, and the other morning around 6 am, I heard some crazy howling outside. It scared my dog! Either someone had a lot of dogs outside who decided to howl all at once or something else is out there. Are there coyotes in this area?

Definitely. Coyotes are keeping area removal experts busy

google coyote sounds its pretty unique. They yip more than they howl. but it is a racket, and quite eerie sounding

You are hearing correctly. I hear them out there almost every time I go outside during the wee hours.

Yeah they are behind my house all the time. I just yell at them to take their yipping elsewhere and they take off.

They don't bother us, but my dog is bigger than them so that's to be expected. I'd be mindful of small dogs and cats tho.

My mother saw one in my old neighborhood in Waxhaw once. Scared me that it would go into a neighborhood.

No surprise. We lives near the McAlphine Greenway off Monroe Road in Charlotte. We've had the critters on our street in a residential area. Dogs and cats have been attacked or gone missing because the domestics are its prey.
