day trips from Charlotte
Help my sisters are coming to visit and I promised a sight seeing adventure.
We orginally was to go to Biltmore Estate, but will not have time. They will be here Thrusday till Saturday only. We have lived here for two years but barely left our little nest in University area. One would really like to go to the beach.

Charleston would be doable. 3- 3.5 hours in the car each way. Could make for a long day. Maybe an overnight stay would be best.

I'm thinking if they don't have time to do Biltmore, they probably don't have time to do Charleston - which is a shame as both those places are awesome to visit.
So, I'd recommend they do things around Charlotte like visit the Mint Museum on Randolph Rd - go to South Park Mall and check out all the upscale shopping (even if just to window shop), have lunch around there at either Mangionne's, the Cheesecake Factory, or even PF Changs. Maybe ride up to Latta Plantation on Mountain Island Lake (take exit 16 off of I77 to get there) to see what life was like in Charlotte back in its early days. Or, how about taking one of the tours at Lowe's Moter Speedway? There is also the wonderful little Nature Museum in Myers Park (just off of Princeton Rd) - plus you could take a car tour all around Myers Park to oh and ah over the lovely old homes Good luck!

I found the whitewater rafting center a great place to watch the activities. It is kind of hard to find, but is quite a spectacular place to visit.

Ride down to Waxhaw and plunder the shops. Have lunch at Rippingtons. Maybe you will luck up and catch them during one of their street festivals. Autumn Treasures weekend is October 13-14.

I did Charleston in a day last Friday. On the Road by 7am in Charleston by 10am. Dropped wife of at the Spa (we were there for a wedding) at 11am. Ate lunch and a few cold ones a Wild Wings till 3pm. Everyone got ready for wedding at 6pm on the beach. Reception/Dinner till 9pm. Bars and Clubs till 2am. Ride back to Charlotte and in bed by 5.30am. Up at 8.30am to pick up kids for soccer
It can be done if you willing to put in the effort

You can easily visit Old Salem in a day or, if they like flowers, the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in half a day.
