Hi! I've been living in Terrell for about a week now with my aunt. I absolutely love it down here!! I love it all.. except for one thing. I don't have a single friend down here. I've been out and about the past week, a little in Charlotte, but mostly Mooresville, but all it resulted in was me spending wayyyy too much money. I am a little shy, but I usually have no problem whatsoever getting out of my safety zone and making friends, I can do it in about any situation. Upon further thought, I realized in a school or work setting, I have NO problem making friends.
I'm twenty, moved from a town of 12,000 in south-central Illinois. I moved down here, away from the majority of my family, my friends, and my boyfriend because my aunt and I are going to start a business. That's all going fine and dandy, but let me tell you... I am really, really lonely down here.
Does anyone have any advice on making friends? I've been lurking and reading different topics, and I know about 50% of people say people are clique-y and the other half say they're all friendly. Either way, I don't have an "excuse" like school or work to meet people my age.
I'm just under three months away from being 21, so bars and such are out of the question.
I don't want to get a part-time job just yet because the 'work' part of my brain HAS to be focused on my business.
Does anyone have suggestions?? I could really use a friend around my age in this area! Thank you in advance, ya lovely people (:

Welcome to NC!
It was very brave of you to make such a big move and leave so much behind. I wish you luck in getting your business with your aunt going.
One great way to meet new people when you move to a new area is Meetup groups. Give it a try! You just find a group with some common interest than show up for an activity. What are you into? Photography? Hiking? Scrapbooking? Softball? Darts?
In 3 months when you are "legal", try going down to Mooresville old downtown to hang out at the Bathtub Gin. There are lots of people your age there after 9:30 or 10 on a Friday and Saturday night. The place has a nice vibe.
You have been there one week give it some time. Just moving and starting a business I don't know how you have had time to go out as much as you have in one week. It takes time to adjust to a new city and make new friends.
I think I just got overly ridiculously excited that I had a reply (:
how exactly does one get involved with meetup groups? I've never heard of that before, do you just google it?
hah! this is my first big move, if it wasn't blatantly obvious already. Last time I moved was an hour away from home to go to a university, where it was much easier to make friends.

Oh, I know it takes time. I'm not trying to rush things, but it would be nice to have someone down here.
I've had so much time because my aunt and I decided to take a week or so to get used to me living here. She's taking care of the business side of things, i'm taking care of the art side of things, so she's been busy doing business-y stuff while I've been planning out art projects for the customers. My uncle is in his office most of the day and my aunt is busy running around, doing errands and such i suppose. I've had a lot of time to myself.

Gotcha, patience my dear, friends will happen and good luck with it all.
