Occupancy in Charlotte area hotels last year, during the week of Sept. 4-9, was a mere 25.5 percent. The boost from the convention puts average weekly occupancy rates at 88.25 percent, with occupancy reaching 97.7 percent on Tuesday and Wednesday.

So let me see if I got this straight... A known way right leaning conservative publication writes a "story" about an ex-lobbyist GOP candidate in town to mock the convention as part of a "truth squad"... a guy who never wanted the convention in Charlotte from the beginning... a guy who boasts about Charlotte for NASCAR and banking ostensibly to take credit for himself - lynx he could take credit for I guess... btw ALL of these things (NASCAR, Banking, and LYNX) are mocked by the "real Charlotte" crowd here on the forums as being epic failures for the city... This guy says "Welcome to Gitmo" and it's supposed to mean something?

get serious please

^You left out the part that McCrory, who made the statements and not the "right leaning conservative publication", is Charlotte's longest serving mayor. He probably knows more about this than most.

I'm not questioning his knowledge of Charlotte - which has zero bearing on his or my statements... I'm questioning his motives for saying what he did and his knowledge of Guantanamo Bay as a comparison. I can safely assure you that security is tighter in Gitmo.

What little I took from that story he didn't want the convention for fears of security overkill years ago - I mean really, who doesn't like telling everyone that you were right?

I have a hard time taking people seriously when the only credible news stories about the DNC are negative.

Pat may "know" the city but he doesn't know anything about timing...

I wonder what Pat called charlotte when he and his banker cronies torn down an almost new coliseum that taxpayers still owed many millions on and then built another arena up town in spite of the majority of taxpayers telling him over and over again NOT to do it.
