Cassie ran away while visiting Charlotte and turned up in Mt. Holly. Her foster parents were able to track down the owners thanks to microchip technology. Brandy Metcalf could not hold back her emotions as she hugged her 11-year-old dog Cassie. It was the first time Metcalf saw her in more than three years, her youngest son did not even know the family dog until Thursday.

Its a neat story, I kind of want to know what part of Charlotte they was in so I can track what kind of path the dog may have went.

I wonder if they could make the micro chip with a GPS responder so owners can find their pet sooner.

Here another lost dog, except this one was from Hurricane Katrina also has a microchip.
A Cabarrus County vet is asking for the public's help in returning to a dog who was separated from his owners following Hurricane Katrina. The dog, Shorty, was taken to Cabarrus Animal Hospital after a man spotted him in a roadway about two weeks ago and is a long way from home.

Seems like they could find a truck driver with that route or a guardian for Amtrak ride.
