I'd be willing to bet that's better than a lot of similar sized counties. I tried to look up Wake County real quick but couldn't find the numbers. I did look at the city of Richmond VA (about 1/5 the size of Meck County) which had 17 murders in the same timeframe.
We need to wait for the final annual results. I wonder if some murders are being listed as involuntary manslaughter, self-defense and not counted. I remember in the U.K. when murders weren't murders, they were called misadventures and therefore the numbers skewed. I certainly hope that the murder rate remains low in the traditionally low crime areas.

If they get off with anything less than 1st degree murder, there need to be heads rolling at the courthouse. I cannot think of a single scenario in this case where a lesser charge would be appropriate. If these thugs want to keep it real, I want, DEMAND, the legal system to do the same. It is time to send a clear message that this crap will not be tolerated.

Well, to be fair, you can't say "it happens ALL the time". It happens a handful of times a year.

OK, it doesn't happen all the time. Just once ro twice a week based on averages posted in this thread. It's still too much and still goes underpunished all too often.

I agree with you, but if you ever sat and watched our judges push
thugs back out into the public - you would be truly amazed.

What's more amazing is understanding how some of these judges in
Charlotte got appointed by our lovely Governor.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Maybe you were around for my break-in thread. Either way, he got credit for time served between that arrest and another arrest. It was a joke. I'm out $1000 from damages and my wife is paranoid if I am not home before dark. And this POS is back out on the streets most likely doing the same thing, just looking for surveillance cameras now.

So, no, I am not at all surprised at the crap that goes on downtown. Garbage in, garbage out. Both sides of the bench in some cases.

Just to add, I will be watching this case. If these guys get reduced charges, I will be raising hell. Count on it.

Homicides by city in NC in 2011.
  • Charlotte = 55
  • Greensboro = 41
  • Durham = 27
  • Raleigh = 17
While I realized this isn't county murders, I'm willing to bet that almost all of these occurred inside the city in question.
