Yeah. I never dug around much until this story broke. It's really disturbing. Found some more stuff out about Furtick and his mentor - a guy name Perry Noble in SC. It's a rabbit hole of crazy there - going after people's families and jobs for disagreements over preaching styles. Really bizarre and angry stuff, but oddly very fascinating. Makes me glad I left organized religion behind.

Yeah. That's the very definition of a cult. I can remember back in the 90s when I was a college student, there was a cult here then called The Charlotte Church or something like that. They had good looking young women try to recruit college freshmen by essentially hitting on them.
Apparently they were known for separating people from their families. I think Creative Loafing did a big expose on them with some ex-members. This guy reminds me a lot of that church, preying on young college students and professionals. It's disturbing how many elevation bumper stickers you will see around UNCC.

You asked for his reason, and he gave it. Obviously it's his opinion.
What about the second part of his post? What if Muslims, or some fringe religion, were to want to mentor hundreds of teens, with the assumption that they would be teaching their religious views as part of their mentoring? How would you feel about that?
Feel free to respond, but that's rhetorical as much as anything. The problem with religion having anything to do with government is that it's unfair to anyone who isn't part of that religion, including those with no religion at all.
