At&T has a new thing called mobile share which sounds good for you. It's $45 each line for unlimited text and talk, and $35 for regular phones. You share 1 GB of data. So it will be $90 plus taxes for you with unlimited talk/text. I live in South Charlotte and never had a problem with a dropped signal. I do go to the Myers Park area and hadn't had a problem there either.
I believe the data will run you an extra $40 for the least expensive option...

I have switched to Straight Talk for $45/mo unlimited everything. They also have a $30 plan. There are so many pay as you go plans out there that I would encourage doing a bit of research before getting another 2 year contract plan.
My son uses ATT GoPhone pay as you go and that works well too.
I would just stay away from Sprint. I got horrible service in and around the outlying areas of Charlotte. I have finally ditched them after over 10 years of being with them. I would also stay away from any pay as you go that uses Sprint towers (Boost, Virgin Mobile, and I think there are a few others.)
Get you a used iPhone from eBay or Craigslist or something and order the straight talk sim card and it's only $45 per month for unlimited everything. Less than half the price of AT&T and Verizon and it uses AT&T's own towers for service.
When I first moved here, I was on Sprint. I couldn't get service in my apartment near South Park. Needless to say, I dropped them. Since on Verizon, my service hasn't had any problem. Too bad it is really expensive but I would rather have service when I needed it vs paying for a service that I can't use all the time.
I have been with Verizon for several years now, their network and customer service is great!! Just for the total price for two lines after taxes..I want to try something else. I might end up with Verizon again but doesn't hurt to give it a try what's out there. As I'm out of my contract.
I'll share my experience, I ordered a Straight Talk phone, let me check it for a month and see how it is.
