There is a very positive article in today's paper (how timely!) about Mooresville schools.

Let me find it for you............

Here is an excerpt:

The results have been so dramatic that many national broadcasts and publications have interviewed Edwards and steady streams of educators from other states come to experience and learn from the Mooresville model

I have heard great things about Davidson too and if we could afford it I think that would be where we would go.
Yes! My son went to Torrence Creek. Fabulous school! My son had learning disabilities and the school was as good as a private. We did move him to private for Middle School due to them because trying to keep track of multiple teachers would have been difficult.

I love Huntersville all of the kids in our neighborhood are public school for the most part with no real issues. We looked into moving to Iredell but I love being closer to Charlotte. The town itself here is well managed and so I feel like it is the best place for us.

Again saying that I love Davidson but really Huntersville has a lot to offer. Mooresville just does not do it for me it is really spread out FOR ME.

Getatag....why mooresville graded over Huntersville? Can you be specific?

While I was away, "Ocean22" summed it up pretty well. The article link in today's Disturber by "Xcape" is also very informative. Especially their free and reduced lunch ratios.

MGSD is small, extremely manageable and well run. They have enough support from businesses in the vicinity to provide capital to provide laptops for each student, etc.

One big plus they have used to their advantage is the ability to tax as a school district. While that is an extremely large burden for school board members, they have carried the load and kept the tax rate low enough to attract newcomers to the district.
The MGSD and the Roanoke Rapids Public Schools are the only two North Carolina districts with school board authority to raise or lower their supplemental tax rate. Eighteen others have taxing authority, but rate changes must be approved by their county governments.
