Well had a pumpkin picking, hay ride, and hot apple cider session this past weekend (at a farm in N. Charlotte) - it was great! So now I'd like to find a home made (not supermarket or big store) pumpkin pie. The farm I was at wasn't selling any. Where can I can one (farm, farm stand, bakery, etc.).

Thanks!

bump. It's that time of the year, and I'm interested, as I'm sure many others are as well.

I ended up finding a guy who was a chef who made an amazing pie and bought a couple...I was surprised that not many farms around here would make and sell - I think it would be a big selling item.

It seems that pumpkin pie is not really a southern thing. I know as a kid my family could not even find the canned pumpkin pie filling except for October through Thanksgiving. We liked to have a pumpkin pie over the Christmas Holidays but you could not even find that in December.

Have you tried Pike's in South End? They make incredible pies.

You can always find canned pumpkin and the pie filling in the stores. Either on the baking aisle or the canned vegetable aisle.

My observation is that they prefer sweet potato pie down here. Which is a poor substitute.

The recipe on the back of Libby's brand of pumpkin is the best - so easy to make - like 10 min prep. You can just buy a ready made frozen crust.

Try this place...they are INCREDIBLE: Sweet Lorraine?s Bakery | French Inspired Pastries & Desserts | Charlotte, NC

We went a few weeks ago and everything was fabulous. Typically, I do not like bakeries because the goods are baked and dry. This place was so good and I saw that they do have pies.
