Actually, according to this forum, there are many people who are running out to get a gun to shoot people at will.

THAT makes me scared to go out at night...not the thugs! [/quote]

You are completely misinformed as to why people go to all the trouble to obtain a legally purchased gun. They could be your dentist, lawyer, or doctor.... sometimes even the little old lady down the block. These are responsible citizens and not gun waving madmen hell-bent on attacking you.

Now you do need to watch out for the dreadlocked wannabe thug who has a heater he bought for $50.00 on the street.... or the skinhead meth addict with an illegally obtained weapon who are out to rob and steal to fund their next impulsive pleasure.

When you need the police they are 10-15minutes away even if the threat is imminent. Do you know that it only takes around 60 seconds to kick in the toughest wood doors?

Where would your family be? Would you feel guilt for life if you failed to exercise your right to protect your family? What if these thugs decide to take your wife with them, leaving you helpless and bleeding.

I would rather not have to answer those questions, so I exercise my rights to own firearms.

The worst that could happen is that you could get gang raped and tortured for days, weeks or months till you beg to die & you're dumped off on some street corner. Then on your road to recovery you discover that your pregnant with your rapist's child. When you try to terminate the pregnancy the rapist asserts his parental rights...

Or perhaps a lasting relationship.

And somehow, subsidized housing should improve the area .

Damn right I am making assumptions.

And you can bet my assumptions are right on target. Let's see if the perp is ever caught. Remember: no one even wanted to cooperate enough to give a description of the perp at the scene. Strange way for a victim to react, IMHO.

With the longstanding tradition of slapping perps on the hand and coddling repeat offenders . . . all of which is possible b/c of the social programs made available to these "unfortunate, misguided youths" . . . yeah, I am definitely assuming that Mr. Jones had all sorts of reasons for wanting to downplay this assault.

You are totally welcome to assume something different but that doesn't make my assumptions any less valid than yours.

And I have as much right to question Jones's choice of descriptions as much as anyone else. A cop sure would if they had me in a room questioning me as to why I was being so generous of spirit towards someone that could have just shot my ass.

If I were dying of cancer like jones is, the last thing I would want to do is spend time talking to cops and lawyers over a few bucks.

If his health issues are so bad that he isn't able to talk to authorities about an armed robbery, then he shouldn't be the CEO and administrator of Mecklenburg county which has close to a million residents and many many employees under his command. Obviously he should step down and see to his health first.

In fact, as county manager, I'd think he would want to do everything he could to make sure that armed robberies are treated seriously and not accepted as a harmless prank committed by a "gentleman".
