South End and Plaza Midwood seem to be the gay areas.
South End has club like Marginy, Bar at 316, and Sidelines. A lot of LGBT tenants in the pink skyscraper among other places.
Plaza Midwood encompasses, LGBT Center , White Rabbit Books & more White Rabbit - Gay Charlotte Bookstore, DVDs, Clothing, Designer Underwear, Gay owned B&B, Time Out Youth and whole in the wall plaxe called the Central Station neighborhood bar. The latest census has more LGBT in this zip code than any where in the state.
I seem to hang with my gay friends in the Dilworth area and attend Unitarian Church in Cotswold.
Not sure where this is going, but what a hell of an idea. We need a residential developer in Charlotte
to build a neighborhood the size of Ballantyne just for gays. Think of the jobs it would create.

Groups generally have areas that prodominately consist of people with similar characteristics. I guess that it is good in Charlotte that gays tend to live in all communities in safety and generally welcomed like anyone else if they are good neighbors. There are some areas mentioned that have higher percentages of gays as mentioned above. But, they are all around. Age, education, and race are factors that go along with your question. As a gay, you will likely find the aforementioned factors as well. But, pretty sure you will find what you want in NoDa, Dilworth, Southend, Uptown, Elizabeth, Chantily, Plaza Midwood or even Southpark. Good luck.
I don't believe that there is a prodominatel anything in the Charlotte area.

That is not what I meant.
They have gay neighborhoods in other cities. Ever heard of Wilton Manors in Ft Lauderdale? Guess not.
There is a gay neighborhood in Derita. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of it.
OMG there is actually something Frewroad doesn't know about..............! I am speechless
