There are a LOT of people from the NY/NJ area in Charlotte. I hope all your families are safe and fine.
However, there are many people who still haven't received help from FEMA or Red Cross.
I was a volunteer during the 9/11 disaster and am feeling really helpless about not being able to be up there helping now. But, a lot of people are getting together and getting supplies out to those who need it.
If anyone here would like to help please check out organizations like worldcares.org, americares.org, aidmatrix.org, and directrelief.org. Also, my old group from Ground Zero is out in Rockaways helping people. There are some very sobering pictures on this fb page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Sand...llaVolunteers/
I hope this post doesn't violate any terms of service, but I think it's important to try and help where we can. Red Cross and FEMA can't be everywhere. There are people out there trying very hard to pick up the slack.
I'm sorry to hear about your friends and family, guys. So awful.
Some updates:
There are people offering free pumping to those in Rockaway (and then they're going to Breezy). text 347-236-6858 with a name and address if you need help. Please pass this on to anyone who needs it.
Staten Island has a donation center set up (to receive and distribute) at 3845 Richmond Ave (Sen Lanza's office).

Thank you for this posting. I just returned from the Rockaways. We had a 7 car caravan loaded with 95% clothes and the rest food delivered to a public school on Beach 66 st.
The devastion on Broad Channel Drive was like a scene out of a bombing in Iraq. Tried to take some pictures (got one one of a 30' (?) boat up on the meriden of Beach Channel Drive in Broad Channel ) but they were hard to take following a caravan.
They're opening up the schools on monday. PS 142's (in Manhattan) food suppy went bad because of the power outage. They're accepting donations to make up for their loss. 100 Attorney Street New York, NY 10002 - note from Rhonda Levy, Principal.
There's a big group bringing stuff up from Union County to NJ this coming weekend. If anyone is interested in donating from down here, shoot me a PM and I can give you their info. They are gathering non-perishables, blankets, trash bags, things like that.
The organization that I am involved with, What if Everyone loaded a van filled with water, toiletries, cleaning supplies & is headed to Jersey in partnership with No Sweat Portable Shower Service.
If you have friends up there who don't know what to do, I just got this message: IF YOU WANT TO HELP in a very EFFICIENT way, go directly with THESE SUPPLIES (hot food, bleach, water esp) to 155 Beach 19th street, Far Rockaway. There is a 17 story apartment side by side which is 100% ELDERLY RESIDENTS (mostly Russian speaking) who simply CANNOT CLIMB UP and down 17 flights of stairs in the dark to get these basic supplies for themselves. Go deliver to them. They are prisoners in their own homes without power, water, heat or food. Their toilets do not flush and they cannot go to the shelters for help nor do they have any information given no power for over a week and probably not getting power for more weeks to come. You can get additional supplies at Beach 38th street Church. more information on Occupy Sandy.Occupy Sandy Relief | InterOccupy Hub
