HI, we are currently residing in NYC but are looking to move south. We are looking for an area with decent weather, low cost of living (compared to NYC) and lots of jobs in the financial sector. Charlotte is of course on the list. We are planning to have kids any day and since we are an interracial (she:black, he: white) couple we are worried about the schools. We are looking for a private school which is highly rated and is diverse, with both white kids and non white kids. Which schools in the area would fit that description?

I can understand your concern, really I can, but please know your future kids would be fine no matter what school you put them in in Charlotte - public or private. You DO NOT need a "diverse" school population to ensure your kids safety or having good friends. I can only assume you think you would because you do not really know that in reality there is a lot less prejudice in the south, and Charlotte in particular, than there is up north.

If you are interested in private education for your child for other reasons than besides race I would look at Charlotte Country Day, Providence Day, Charlotte Latin or Charlotte Christian - those are the four top schools.

Check out www.providenceday.org
Look at the Global Studies program and the Diversity program on the toolbar.
They are leading the nation in creating a diverse atmoshpere for students and teachers. Schools from around the country are coming in to learn about the PDS programs. It is fairly new but growing and expanding quickly.
