My husband and I are moving from Cleveland to Charlotte, NC in 6 weeks. My new job is located in Midtown near Southpark Mall. We are looking for a safe, pet-friendly, reasonably priced apartment complex within 20 minutes of Southpark Mall. We need to sell our house in Cleveland and will not be buying in Charlotte until 2014. Any help would be appreciated!

Hmmm...Midtown is not typically described as "near Southpark Mall", just fyi. Midtown, being right on the fringe of uptown, will be harder to find anything reasonable, although reasonable is relative not knowing what price range you are looking in. If $1100 a month is reasonable, then you shouldn't have any problems.
The Southpark area may have some older (built in the 80's) apts that are OK for apts such as The Hamptons at Southpark or Alexander Place with rates starting around $750 for a 1br. Both of these are in a safe area and pet friendly.

There are newer apts along Park Rd that are much higher in rent, and more convenient to Midtown. Cielo is one of them. There's another near the intersection of Park Rd and Seneca but I cannot think of the name. It's a gated apt community.

There's a big apt boom going on right now in Charlotte. Many along the light rail line on S Blvd, which is very convenient to Midtown. Some of those are taking renters now and others have not yet completed construction. These will have high rental rates though. The closer to town, the higher the rates (for a nice, safe place anyway).
